The reason we picked a silent auction is because we'd like to raise money for a charity, but we don't want to increase our very low entry fee to give a charity a cut. We know that at the end of August you've probably spent hundreds of dollars on race entries already this season, and you're still saving a little for the Victoria Marathon in October, or the Dino Dash ... With our silent auction, whatever money is raised during the auction is paid directly to the charity, whether that's $200 or $2000. If there aren't many bids, then some real neat stuff will go home cheap. And if there are lots of bids, then the charity gets a nice cheque. The charity for 2007 is the Mustard Seed (Calgary) Street Ministry. We've been collecting shoes for years, and now we'd like to increase our charitable work.
